In April, Nobel Literature Prize laureate Mo Yan had been hired by Shandong University(SDU) as the chair professor. Then he opened the "Literature Lectures of Shandong University" and made his first speech. Mo talked about literature and life with professor Wen RuMin, professional teachers and graduate students accompanied by Zheng Chun, the dean of LJS ( Literature and Journalism School ) at SDU.

Friendships

The co-operation between Mo Yan and the university started in 2011 when he became a part-time professor there. Mo Yan said that he has already seen the congratulations and related information from Shandong University and LJS at the very beginning, and thought them very sincere. He retrospected his young life in Shandong University as well as the cooperation with LJS, then told something about the winning and the following plans. Both sides talked things over the following cooperation. Finally the preliminary project on recruiting postgraduates together, the arranging for Mo Yan’s lessons, and the plan to foster students were formed.

Consciousness

During the lecture , Mo Yan said that writing comes from daily life, and that inner thoughts should be expressed in writing. As a writer, his creation concept has happened great changes in thirty years.

Mo Yan's writing is characterized by the blurring of distinction between "past and present, dead and living, as well as good and bad". Mo Yan appears in his novels as a semi-autobiographical character who retells and modifies the author's other stories.

Difficulties

As a famous writer, Mo Yan was awarded the Nobel Prize for literature.Does he has any trouble? how to break through himself? Actually, Mo has been trying to change in the process of creation and he hopes to create "Mo Yan style works".

Mo Yan's works are epic historical novels characterized by hallucinatory realism and containing elements of black humor. A major theme in Mo Yan's works is the constancy of human greed and corruption, despite the influence of ideology. Using dazzling, complex, and often graphically violent images, he sets many of his stories near his hometown, Northeast Gaomi Township in Shandong province.

Expectations

Zheng Chun, the dean of LJS expressed that Mo Yan was the first chair professor employed by humanities and social science of SDU. For a long time, as a professor of the School of Literature and Journalism (LJS), Mo Yan had a close relationship with SDU.As early as in 2001, Mo Yan were invited as an adjunct professor of the LJS, and recruited graduate students along with interior professors, in SDU and have made important contributions for graduate students education and the training of students' humanistic quality.in the future, Mo would not only recruit graduate students who major in Modern and Contemporary Literature, but also make every effort for the development of SDU. Mo said the strong focus on his winning the award shows that China is playing a more important role in international affairs.He will perform his duty, write good works and teach good lessons.

Ps. Mo Yan was born in 1955, in Gaomi County in Shangdong province to a family of farmers. He left school during the Cultural Revolution to work in a factory that produced petroleum. After the Cultural Revolution he joined the People's Liberation Army (PLA), and began writing while he was still a soldier, in 1981. Three years later, he was given a teaching position at the Department of Literature in the PLA Academy of Art and Literature, where he published his first novella, A Transparent Radish (1984). In 1991, he obtained a master's degree in Literature from Beijing Normal University. Mo Yan began his career as a writer in the reform and opening up period, publishing dozens of short stories and novels in Chinese. On 11 October 2012, the Swedish Academy announced that Mo Yan had received the Nobel Prize in Literature for his work "with hallucinatory realism merges folk tales, history and the contemporary".
