Nobel Prize in Literature is an authoritative award in the field of world literary. It represents the highest honor and has wide-ranging influence.

For Chinese writers, your success fulfills the zero breakthrough in this field. It's an affirmation not only for your literary achievements, but also for the Chinese authors who wrote nearly 100 years from generation to generation. What’s more, it reflects China’s rising and influence in the world,and also marks the world’s ratification on the achievements of Chinese Contemporary Literature (CCL).

Having engaged in literary creation for over thirty years,you have been writing continuously, maintaining an exuberant creative passion , and also have won high praise from the readers at home and abroad. You have an eager concentration on the development and progress of the Chinese society. Your perspective, strokes and feeling of literary are closely linked with the fate of our country.In the wave of “Root-seeking” literature in the 1980s, you constructed a legend of the northeast countryside of Gaomi with a complicated emotion which was a mixture of “homesickness” and “home-resentment”.Whether Transparent Carrot, Red Sorghum or Red Locust, they all show your strong individual character style and bold exploration spirit. And the Garlic Ballads shows that you have the courage and the responsibility to face up to reality and care the suffering of the people as an intellectual.

Subsequently, in a series of outstanding works, for example, The Public of Wine, Sandalwood Penalty , Life and Death Are Wearing Me Out ,and Frog ....using dazzling, complex, and often graphically violent images, you draws readers into the disturbing yet beautiful, kaleidoscopic universes of your stories, bringing "Mo Yan hot" several times.

Your works have been translated into a dozen languages and been spread at home and abroad, and has won many awards. The Nobel Prize for Literature is another important harvest you have got!

For a long time, as a professor of the School of Literature and Journalism (LJS), you have had a close relationship with SDU. You have accumulated a profound friendship with your hometown –Shandong, in the way of heading for the world.As early as in 2001, you were invited as an adjunct professor of the LJS, and recruited graduate students along with interior professors, in SDU. Two courses you offered for graduate students, creation science and contemporary writer theory, were very popular with students. Your lecture records were widely circulated after they were published in SDU. You have made important contributions for graduate students education and the training of students' humanistic quality.Last year, we were in consultation and reached an agreement that, form this year, we would have a further close cooperation. You would not only recruit graduate students who major in Modern and Contemporary Literature, but also make every effort for the development of SDU.You repeatedly expressed that you were willing to contribute yourself to Shandong and SDU, as long as you had enough time.We feel so warm and thankful for this.Therefore, we were so delighted to learn that you won the Nobel Prize in literature.We believe that this is not only your glory but also ours.
